Reciprocation: Healing the rift & working TOGETHER by Chessa Peak

Reciprocation. To me this words means to work with. It is the delicate art of allowing and receiving with grace, integrity, and emotional maturity. It is delicate patience and speaking from the heart. It is accountability for your actions and allowing others to speak their truth without critical judgment. It is being comfortable enough to speak your mind graciously and having your words be received the Lost and Foundwith respect and nurturing. It is the turning of the earth and receiving precious harvest. It is to work with. Sometimes it is hard work and you must know when to cut your losses to preserve self and soul. It should never get to that point of damage.

Reciprocation, I believe, is possible through the genuine and purest of love. So, for me, how have I seen reciprocation come to fruition? Through working with parallels. Parallels in those I love and have made a necessity in my world. Build from likeness with infinite kindness. It will get easier with practice, like any learned skill, all things take exercise and discipline to gain that greater knowledge.

What You Really Want by Chessa Peak

Part 1 in a 2 part series

Wbat you really wantI see soo many of my beautiful fellow man locked in their places of fixed resistance. From not wanting to move past an emotional wound, staying in a job they hate, back and forth relationships, to refusing to claim their own greatness and live as they’re intended to live life: happy. We give so much power to external forces that it just seems easier to just let go and choose to listen to ourselves and choose the path of happiness.

I understand the confusion of being locked in the cyclical repetition of negative and soul damning thoughts. It’s time to insist on better for yourself. STOP punishing yourself. You don’t have to live there… though I understand if you are locked there and my deepest condolences for your poor soul if you choose to stay, I love you anyways and my strength is with you. Choosing to be happy isn’t easy and requires a lot of soul shredding truth to get there.

What You Really WantSo, decisiveness. In order to make real steps towards what you want (which I believe is ultimately happiness), you have to be willing to be brutally honest with yourself. If you’re not practiced in this it’s like learning a new trade. It takes time, patience, and dedication to learning how to pay attention to you. Not all of us were born or raised into this way of thinking. Those fortunate enough to have it easier don’t understand the struggle and that’s ok. This is for YOU to understand.

Maybe you really want to travel rather than be in at 9 – 5 job. Maybe you daydream about being a musician or a deep sea diver? Maybe you can’t possibly be those things but you love it? Then move yourself in the direction of your happiness. Maybe what you REALLY want is the comfort of a nice home and air conditioning. – To Be Continued next Monday!

The Nature of Truth and Deceit Today by Chessa Peak

It’s very difficult to be honest with people these days without receiving a reaction like you are attacking the other person. We are not encouraged to be honest with each other. I’ve found that speaking the truth, even kindly and mindful of not creating pain for the other person, is a difficult thing for people to do and receive.

Truth and Nature of Deceit So how does one speak with truth without making someone feel attacked? Speak from a place of truth about you, ie: rather than telling someone that their actions are wrong which makes the person feel like they are “bad”, tell the person that you are having a hard time with their behavior and it is causing you stress or anger or whatever negative emotion you may be experiencing.

By coming from a place that is authentically you, if the person you are confronting with the The true nature of Truth and Deceitdifficult truth has love for you they will not want to cause you pain or will do their best to correct their behavior. If we can’t be encouraged to speak the truth, no matter how difficult you feel it is to speak, then we are all contributing to the widespread culture of lies and deceit that so many of us see and despise. If you can’t receive the truth, no matter how kind or harsh it is, then what course of action is left?

How you react is a choice, stop reacting out of anger, PERIOD. Act and react in grace and kindness or not at all unless it’s critical. If you love someone enough to speak the truth to them, realize that it’s just as difficult to speak it and receive it. The only way to correct this behavior is to be the change you wish to see in your world. Brightest Blessings, Chessa Peak

The Lost and Found: Owning Your Delusions

Owning Your Delusions by Chessa Peak

I’ve been my own worst enemy. I’ve allowed my anger and resentment to poison my spirit and The Lost and Found: Own Your Delusionsrelationships. I’ve allowed myself to stay in situations that were not beneficial to my upward growth. I’ve allowed myself to perpetuate the victim mentality in my mind. I’ve knowingly enabled bad behavior in myself and others which kept us both in stasis. I’ve based logical conclusions on emotional fallacies. I’ve been blaming and accusatory. I know the hell I’ve been through is not entirely self-inflicted but in taking responsibility for my ill actions and seeing my part in my afflictive nature I am able to learn my lessons.

In the past I’ve forced myself to say I was over this or that. Truth is I just looked past it and kept truckin, never learning from my mistakes, always repeating them, and finding any way to justify my lack of whatever I perceived to be important(real or imagined). Finding any band aid that would cover up my wounds. All of these self-defeating patterns can be changed. Habit is conditioning and environment. If you are committed to living a better life you must be committed to changing yourself. Change is slow and gradual unless you have three things: enthusiasm, a sense of urgency, and a The Lost and Found: Own Your Delusionsufficient motivatior.

Look at where you are lacking in your life. What needs dusting off? What are you neglecting in yourself and your life? What are you focusing on in excess? What can you do to make yourself a better person? Perhaps you make too many excuses? Make a list of your short comings. Train yourself to recognize when you are doing them. Force yourself to slow down and pay attention to what you are feeling. Write it down and re-read your own words. I’m not saying I’m there. I still have a long way to go but I have a genuine want to change. It can be done. Teach yourself a better way. These are some of the promises I have made to myself:

  1. I will never put myself or another person through emotional turmoil.
  2. I will know when to graciously cut my losses to preserve my inner peace
  3. I will keep with kind, considerate and compassionate people
  4. I will not allow the bad behavior of others to destroy my inner peace
  5. I will try always to respond with love and positivity, if I can’t I must walk away and return with a calm attitude or know when to walk away for good.
  6. I will know how much of myself to give to others.
  7. I will respond to inner anger and frustration with tolerance and patience
  8. I will keep my negative emotional reactions to myself, this nature causes an unnecessary drain on those who love me.
  9. I will not expect that others will reciprocate my good nature
  10. I will maintain my integrity, ethics, grace and soul. I do this by listening to my instincts and not going against them or else all falls apart.  
  11. I must avoid contact with what I desire until my mind is tamed. I have no self-control.
  12. I will stay dedicated to being the woman others see me as
  13. I will keep a healthy distance from those whose nature is contradictory to mine.
  14. I will slowly place people in my life. I will learn about their nature before I let them in.
  15. If the people I love are not interested in growing with me I will not attack them for it, I will separate myself instead.
  16. I will not force a connection or closeness on another soul again, I have to save that energy for my upward growth
  17. I will never again keep in my life those who hold no honor for them self or me.
  18. I will base my decisions on my needs rather than my wants.
  19. I will always try to wear a smile on my face and consciously try to emit kindness
  20. I will keep with souls of similar frequency that nourish my spirit and distance myself from overly confused, blaming and averting souls. I naturally expel too much energy on saving the lost. This feelings should be meet with compassion and empathy only, then distance. Nothing more

If I don’t learn to stick to my guns on these things I will not make it and I want to die with that peace in my soul. This is my own personal list. I challenge you to define for yourself what you wish to become for yourself. I wish you strength and perseverance. Namaste

The Lost and Found: 70 Years to Give or Take

70 Years to Give or Take by Chessa Peak

About a year ago, I had one of the most interesting conversations of my entire life. I meet an elderly couple who were 89 and 90 years old. They had been together since they were 17 & 18 years old. They were out walking because they both exercise and enjoy being outdoors together. An eclectic old couple. The lady was wearing a tie dye and the man with a carved walking stick. I had to ask them,

“How long have you two been together?” and man said “About 70 years give or take dear.”. I proceeded to ask them more questions which they didn’t mind at all answering. Since I had my notebook handy I took some notes. “How have you managed to stay together so long without fighting?” I asked. The lady said, “We don’t fight. We argue but we are always considerate of what we say to one another and how we say it. We’ve had our ups and downs, even been separated for some time but our love always got the best of us.”.

Her husband then said, “We’ve learned together to have a willingness to work for each other and with each other. We learned the hard way but always tried to find ways to work together. Whether it was finances, children, or just living together. We learned to grow together and we 70 years lost and foundboth tried to find common ground. Sometimes that can be hard if you always want to see life your way but you can’t do that when you truly love someone. Sometimes you have to put down what you’re doing to make the relationship last. My problem was always work because I was good at what I did. I wish I’d given more time to my family when I should have.”.

With a still baffled look on my face the lady said to me, “We’re best friends, we never lie to each other and we respect each other. If I need something I can count on him and vice versa.” How incredibly blessed I am to have meet this couple. I thanked them for their time, got on my bike and rode home to post this.

The Lost and Found: Road Map

Road Map to Mental Wellness by Chessa Peak

Part 3 of a 3 part series. Read parts 1 (What Do I Do?) and 2 (Decompression). 

Life doesn’t come with a road map. We’re not taught in school how to be emotionally accountable to ourselves. When we are locked in the mental loop back of toxic bullshit it’s seems impossible to know where to start but I assure you, it’s possible. You have to be willing to break yourself of your emotional bad habits. There is no time limit to your recovery. It is yours Road Mapbut in order to become serious about your recovery you have to find a sufficient motivator. This is up to you to define. For me it was my sincere love for life. I didn’t want to feel the way I felt anymore and decided I didn’t want to die.

You can start making the right decisions for you minute by minute. In every decision you make ask yourself, “Is this right for me? and listen to your instinct. It WILL tell you what is right for YOU. It may not be what you want, but your instincts will always tell you what is right or wrong for you. In every decision you make, dedicate yourself to making good decisions for YOU. If you need something to remind you, use reminders.

Maybe a string on your finger, a necklace, a stone in your pocket, or a picture of where you see yourself, use something to help bring you back to your commitment to yourself. Over time this will get easier but you must be willing to hold yourself accountable to yourself and reteach yourself to be responsible for your well-being.

Again, take your time. In the mechanic world there’s a term called the “rush job”. If you want the guy turning the wrench to rush through your repair, expect that things could be overlooked. Personally, I have found that if I don’t slow down in my decision making I end up eyeballs deep in bullshit before I know I’ve stepped in it. This is your life and every one of us experiences the same range of emotions and thoughts to greater or lesser degrees.

If you make bad decisions and don’t know what to do then don’t decide until you’re ready or you have to. Step back and look at all the angles from an emotional self, then a logical self. Weigh all the consequences of your decision and then act. Don’t rush your decisions and don’t allow Road Map anyone to rush them for you. If someone loves you they will be patient with you. You will get better at this with time. You may find after making a decision that you were wrong, well guess what, big deal. How can you learn from your mistakes if you don’t make them? NO ONE is without fault on this planet. Forgive yourself of your faults, you’re human.

There is almost ALWAYS an external contributing factor to a personal downfall. It’s easy to be the victim and blame everyone and everything for the bad things in our past but speak from it as though it were already gone. Let it be in your past and allow your suffering to die graciously. That pain serves you no good purpose. I’ll end this on another quote a friend sent me. “FEAR has two meanings. Fear Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise”(Se7en). The choice is yours.

The Lost and Found: Decompression

To me the word decompress really just sums up what I had to do to begin releasing the emotional baggage. I was completely inundated with feelings of loss, betrayal, resentment, hopelessness, disappointment, anger, self-hate, and I was pissed off at God. I’m sure emotional habit played into this because of my physical state before my surgery but that is not an excuse for how far I allowed myself to fall. Being in off and on dysfunctional, self-sacrificing relationships didn’t help this either. Not to say that they were violent or physically abusive but they were dysfunctional. I knew I had to hold myself accountable to my recovery but didn’t know what that meant. I was inundated with everything and didn’t know how to stop everything that was flooding me until I observed and reflected with a dear friend who was in the process of what she called “deeply introverting”(Loonar).

This intrigued me as words often do so I began doing the same. I withdrew into myself and allowed myself to be honest with myself. By removing all the external influences in my life other than those that provided some reflection of the personal evolution I was taking, I was able to The Lost and Found: Decompressionremove some of the factors that would cause me to doubt myself. Which is when I found myself staring point blank at self-doubt.


I had nothing to lose in being honest with myself and as a result would focus on words that were causing me pain. Repetitive words in my writing and thoughts showed me where the root of my pain was, and there were several, but self-doubt was the biggest ruling bitch of them all. Rather than listening and reading, I allowed myself to feel the words that had the most power to me, the words that resonated within me the strongest. To cure my emotional self I began focusing on the extreme opposite of the words I knew were causing me pain.

The opposite of self-doubt as I came to define it was self-trust. I took a psychology class at the local Decompressionuniversity and found that I had been locking myself in co-dependent/enabling relationships where I found myself mostly on the enabling side of the dynamic though both have to exist in a person for this to be a problem. As a result of this dynamic I had learned to go against what I KNEW was right for me hence, self-sacrificing. I had learned to distrust my ability to make good decisions for myself. When we give up what we know in our gut is right for someone else and we do this to the extent that it becomes self sacrificing, we are actually teaching ourselves that our instinct is wrong.

We learn best through rhythm and repetition. It’s no wonder I was so lost. I had thrown away my instinct for the betterment of those around me. I have learned now that I must, “critically scrutinize” as another friend said to me (Dougie), anyone I allow close to my world in order to safe guard the progress I’ve made.

What Do I Do?!?: How I started making good decisions for myself by Chessa Peak

Part 1 of a 3 part series

I was the queen of bad decisions until a life changing surgery five years ago. My life was a turbulent and traumatic mess. I had spent my entire adult life in physical pain, at times white out pain. Between the amount of estrogen and physical pain I was in and no pain management other than what I prescribed myself, it’s a wonder I’m not an addict, in prison or dead. For the
What I Dolast 5 years I have been decompressing from the severity of my life and overhauling myself. It took a long time to see how I was perpetuating the bad decisions in my life but through the strength of my convictions I am seeing more results than anyone I have ever known.

Feeling lost is something I’m very familiar with and I see so many struggling to find a way out of their emotional/mental hell. I am a walking testament to change and if you know me, you will attest to my story. If I can change, so can you. If I found a way out, so can you… but you have to truly want it and be willing to do the work necessary to achieve it.

I reached a severe low point in my personal pit of hell. Circumstance as well as my bad decisions made me suicidal but I knew I wanted to live. Even at this internally destructive low I knew I loved so many things about life. Even though I had begun to make the right decisions, I still felt What I Do this crippling sorrow for everything I had been through and my many failed attempts to make a good life for myself and those around me.

There was something missing. I was taking the steps. Rebuilding my life financially, enrolled in college and making good grades, cut out toxic characters though I was still dabbling in a toxic relationship which I soon ended as well. I was decompressing from the circumstances that had put me under, but the emotional wounds were still as fresh as ever. The word “decompress” kept hitting me.

The Lost and Found: Judgment

Judgment by Chessa Peak

JudgementI find myself spinning the concept of “Judgment” in my head… this is how I relate to the concept.
As humans we are physiologically incapable of not passing judgment. This is how we have adapted and survived as a species. Eat this plant versus the plant that killed my friend Ug. Cross the road or wait. Which characters do I associate with best in my social interactions. Personally, I tried to live without judgment.

That is partially where my integrity broke down. I was feed the mindset that being judgmental meant I was a bad person. I find that if I don’t critically assess the people and situations I place Judgementmyself in, I land myself in a hole before I know I’ve stepped in it. I believe this be because my spirit is so big and powerful that I live that fast intrensically.

I don’t need drugs, alcohol, or men to contribute to this accelerated rate of life. I do this naturally. It’s my spirit. So for me, the ability to cast proper and healthy judgment for what I find acceptable or not has become a crucial survival skill and has helped me become responsible towards my personal evolution. A bartender of over 10 years in the Duke City, musician, entrepreneur, and current student at CNM, Chessa is now currently working towards her own non-profit group that will support literacy, art and music programs for Albuquerque residents and her immediate community. Having come through a negative past, her writings deeply reflect the nature of her personal struggles in an attempt to help others overcome their personal battles.
