The Native American Church (NAC) celebrated its’ Centennial Anniversary on October 10, 2018. The NAC is known for being the catalyst of the The Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978, also called the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, was passed to provide legal protection for the Church’s use of the peyote plant for religious ceremonies.

Jeffrey Lee, Sr.

This extensive history of the NAC has been compiled by NAC member and Navajo elder, Jeffrey Lee. Mr. Lee, who was born in Sunrise Ridge, AZ in a traditional Hogan (1935) has been an adherent of the NAC since he was a child. Mr. Lee fills this anthology with original photographs, primary source documents and personal testimonials in compiling this important history of the most widespread indigenous religion in North America.
