The Summer Solstice or Litha, is observed in many ways around the world. Pagans and non-pagans alike attend a myriad of festivals and take part in festivities around the globe. In 2014 over 35,000 people celebrated the Solstice at Stonehenge. In the United States festivals and observances are also abundance like this on in Times Square, NYC:

Rail Yards Market Fun

At the Rail Yards Market we have many wonderful events planned on this longest day of the year, beginning with Diane Alire who is our featured artist in the STEAM Zone! Alire is originally from Montgomery, Alabama but resides in New Mexico. She is her photographer/printmaker. Her gravure prints can be described as “voyeuristic, sexy, satirical, surreal and intuitive.” They address issues of gender, femininity, identity, self-discovery, coming of age, and relationships. All of her works are inspired by memories, feelings or brief encounters at a particular place and time from her life. Alire uses her camera as a device to collect images intuitively and sometimes randomly. She then either reassembles them in Photoshop or Root 66 Community Gardens creates plates from different images which are then layered in the printing process.
