Rail Yards Market Set to Begin 3rd Season
One of Albuquerque’s favorite Spring/Summer/Fall free “events” is beginning it’s 3rd Season at the Albuquerque Rail Yards – Historic Blacksmith Shop. Located in the historic Barelas neighborhood, the Rail Yards Market (RYM) places an emphasis on LOCAL in every aspect from the Rail Yards grounds, to growers, it represents the best New Mexico has to offer.
Bigger and Better
This season the RYM welcomes over 100 vendors every Sunday beginning Sunday May 1st. Utilizing a portion of the parking lot and the rear (south end) of the Blacksmith’s shop, the RYM will be accommodating more vendors both inside and outside. “Expanding into a portion of the parking lot will help us create a more festive environment for all involved” stated Market Manager Alaska Piper. The outdoor area will also host a petting zoo courtesy of Michael Mull and the folks at One World Rug Care. The RYM will utilize the outdoor space at the back of the building to host entertainment of all kinds. Programming plans include more diverse acts in terms of culture, genre and content. Expect to see Yoga (for all levels), Student and multi-lingual acts.
Opening Day includes some favorites such as Bhava Yoga hosting Morning Yoga,La Rondalla de Albuquerque and theNational Institute of Flamenco. Click here for schedule. Hours will be the same as last season, 10-2pm with the RYM opening EVERY Sunday thru October 30. The Kids Zone will feature hat making using recyclable materials with the STEAM Zone featuring Artist Aaron Richardson.
Outreach
The RYM will also be focusing on Community Outreach using the New Mexico Farmer’s Market Associations Double Up Food Bucks program to reach a broad spectrum of people who will have the opportunity to double their money allocated with the SNAP/EBT Benefit benefit. Every week will feature a different theme emphasizing the diversity of the state.
