In My Mind: The Myth of Time

Martin Luther King Jr spoke of the Myth of Time as the belief that only time will heal the racial injustices in our country or anywhere else in the world. This is a fallacy that is starkly revealed in the current chaos unfolding in our country, some 50+ years after King spoke of it. The time is NOW! Whether we are talking about solving the problems of racial injustice, environmental degradation, political corruption, or the personal problems and challenges of our day to day lives, THE TIME IS NOW!

Time Savers

There is another fallacy tied to the Myth of Time, and that is that there is plenty of it. There is not. It is a limited resource, and there is a definite point in time, when you will run out of your supply. So, you best consider how you use your time, and find the way that will empower you to utilize your allotted portion toward the betterment of yourself, and your society.

There is the fallacy of saving time. Time cannot be saved. There is no savings account for time, where you can tuck some of your time allotment away to be accessed at a later date. Of course, the idea that you can save yourself some time, by cutting out unnecessary steps, or time consuming endeavors, appears logical on the surface, but the reality is, you aren’t saving time, you are in fact applying your use of said time in a wiser and more effective manner. As such, it is wise to consider carefully the actions that one choses to take, in working on solutions to large and complex problems like racial injustice, environmental degradation and political corruption, as well as, the difficulties and challenges that we face in our individual lives. This is not to suggest delaying action, it is to suggest that we look carefully to determine the courses of action that best serve the development of real and lasting solutions to said problems.

FREE your mind ~ POWER up ~ LIFT up ~ yourself and those around you that our most spectacular selves may shine. Remember that even in the vast darkness of space there are billions of points of light. Be a point of light and use your allotted portion of time to shine. This short video I created brings a bit of levity to addressing this last fallacy. I hope that it will bring a little laughter and joy into your life during this time of darkness and sorrow for so many of us.

Kill the Radio by Nick Fury

Kill the Radio Growing up during the 1980’s and 1990’s I admit to listening to the radio a fair amount. The radio with its weekly top forty countdowns and coast to coast talented gene pool gave me a sense of what a lot of great artists were up to. And of course you still had to suffer through the commercials but somehow even that was tolerable. You could slide along dial and engage a real culture in a very efficient way. The radio was the first World Wide Web, the first means of sharing information with mass amounts of people throughout the world. It was generally wholesome and promoted mostly good music…

Then along came Clear Channel. A company that quickly absorbed the radio industry, made radio its’ b%#&h thus degrading the very fabric of that once brave beacon.
Now that once green pasture has become a barren wasteland of talentless hacks, info-morons, blowhards, studio gangstaz, mediocre entertainers and commercial interests. This egregious misuse and misrepresentation of the radio waves has sparked a nationwide debate. This social movement is defined by the power to #KTR, or #KillTheRadio.

Bandwidth No Name

Fast forward to 2015. A talented funk-hip-hop-soul group called Bandwidth No Name http://www.bandwidthnoname.com also known as #BNN began working on a new song. A song that would one day change the face of history, a song that would spark the movement leading the people away from corporate greed and cookie cutter boy bands. This was bigger than disc jockeys, bigger than global warming (sort of) and it all began with the idea that we should kill our radios and stop the evil frequencies from penetrating our minds. The radio has become a symbol of conditioning and mediocrity and it must be stopped.

In June of 2015 released the single for the song “Kill the Radio” https://soundcloud.com/bandwidth-no-name/kill-the-radio which has become a prophetic anthem of the people. Kill the Radio is both a well composed social diatribe and a rootin,’ tootin,’ funky good time.

This video was conceived and developed conceptually by Bandwidth No Name with a singular goal in mind to spread the word world wide that we must all sever our ties and stop the negative radio influence by using some force.

Nick Speak To Radio

BNN front-man/emcee Nick Furious had this to say about the radio and the culture surrounding the radio:

“Yo I came out and said it, and do not regret it what goes on the airwaves is fully pathetic
filled with bad rhetoric and no real aesthetic, it’s a bad epidemic in need of a medic disc Jockeys are monkeys, corporate spoke models, selling a product to increase them ad dollars. The songs are all pointless like A Little Wayne banger, we like substantive music that doesn’t breed anger confusion and pain are the aim of their game, I support NPR but the rest are so lame put a flame to your boom box, smash your receivers, it’s time to take back from you under achievers no more Toby Keith or Justin Bieber, catch the fever, fear the reaper surround all stereos, murder your radio, let art catalyze naturally in local groves.”

The video for Kill the Radio was fortunate to have director of photography Tim McClelland to bring their thoughts to life in a way that is visually stimulating and also story telling. The video had an excellent editor in BNN band member Alexander Wilson, who worked tirelessly, and for free, to piece together a fabulous story. Lastly, the video was directed by Band member and front man Nick “Furious” Meyers in attempt to truly convey frustration in an artful and intelligent way. Meyers directed this masterpiece, his second directing attempt, with a Tarantino esque ferver. The final product is a video to die for, so to speak. This video is one worth watching a few times and sharing with your circles.

BlogBomb: 5 Steps to Succeed as an Emcee

Greetings and welcome in again to the warped and twisted mind of Nick FuriouStylz. This is the holiday edition of BlogBomb and I wish to express deep gratitude and appreciation to all friends, followers and fans. keep sharing the blog. Thanks and happy season’s tidings to you all.

Ok you know what really chaps my hide, grinds my gears and or ruffles my feathers? EMCEE Etiquette. Now don’t take my advice if you choose to but after nearly 2 decades involved in music I caution all emcees to be mindful of their presence and to excercise etiquette when displaying your public persona. I hold the rhyme and my abilities as an emcee and lyricist very highly in my lief. seriously, many of my personal relationships have suffered. I have been accused of putting my passion before family, relationships money and fame but those sacrifices and understandings are the building blocks of what makes me a passionate and dedicated person. I say all we have as artists is our legacy. Its what we leave behind for future generations to learn from like we did from our ancestors, big brothers, fathers and innovators.

1. First Impressions Count

Be a professional. my experience tells me that truthfully less is more when performing. I literally had to learn this lesson hard way as I have always been predisposed to running my mouth before my brain could dissect the consequences. Generally the audience is oblivious but they can quickly begin to form ill judgments of you if you are monopolizing the mic, being insensitive to all groups of people. Remember that an audience is usually a wide spectrum of people and includes many backgrounds and life choices. Don’t alienate a possible fan by not being aware. You never know whom might dig your vibe. It’s 2014 and hurtful slang like Fa#%&t and H@$o don’t show strength or class it shows ignorance and you are better than that. Be a leader and set an example to use creativity and skill, not insecurities and hate to convey your message.

2. Dress to Impress

Now I was raised in a bygone era before the internet and smart phones so I fell extremely fortunate to have experienced some real things in life. One impotant thing I learned along the way is that if you wish to make an impression then simply dress to impress. Take a little time to stand out. and being on time is another pet peeve of mine. No matter what your craft always remember that you represent yourself and should ALWAYS be on time to an event. Don’t dilly dally, always touch base with the contact person 2 to 3 days before the show and find out the scoop: what time is load in, what will they have for sound and what should you bring. find out the logistics and then honor them. Just like a job, you must groom yourself for success by taking time to dress yourself appropriately. A suit and tie are not always the way to go as you might alienate your crowd so know the set ahead of time. And rappers please stop thinking that sloppy is acceptable. Pull your pants up, straighten your dome piece up just rap yo. Let your content speak for itself.

3. R E S P E C T

Successful MCHip hop can sometimes falsely exude a machismo attitude which at times can be very overwhelming to people. Most people who venture out to a show are willing to give you a fair chance and so if you display a modicum of respect to your audience then it will transpire to better horizons. Hip hop at it’s truest is a very advanced art form but it takes a village to perpetuate the correct It is ok to stop being so consumed with an image or saving face and it really is fine to be empathetic and true. I have had homeless street kids and schizophrenic vets feel a connection to my music and THAT is the ultimate rush. You need not force success as it is something that will find you when you are ready for that step of your progression. Only believe that you are truly worthy of your successes and failures and own them all. Life can be the best teacher of lessons hat there is. R-E-S-P-E-C-T it!

4. Quality Content

Understandably one should take creative license when creating art but try to focus on producing quality music for your soul and others’. If you need a few overdubs and some added hook to your performance set that is acceptable but an emcee should be fine with rocking a set without anything but the beat and the words. Take yourself seriously and always give the audience a true glipse of yourself. That is what they are looking for ultimately. I respect the origins of hip hop so much and was raised to always acknowledge those that blazed the trail we walk upon. It is also crucial to study and appreciate ALL forms of art and music, raps and beats that came before and inspired what we do. Even the most typical hip hop emerged from a fore-bearer. How many styles of music exist out there? Sure I desire to make KRS One proud but I also wish to make proud Mozart, Bad Company, The Meters, Aretha Franklin, Manu Chao, Gil Scott Heron etc. Our quality extends from our content.

5. Come Correct

When you agree to perform at an event you must adequately prepare for your set. Find out the set up ahead of time. Nothing bugs a promoter more than a Sally come lately with the gear. If you consider yourself a professional emcee then plan for all contingencies. Purchase YOUR OWN MICROPHONE that is your baby. Nobody else has their germs or paws on your mic. For an incredible starter mic I recommend. This is an incredible purchase and will pay off I swear.

If you are a stickler and wish to sound a step above the rest in the mic department then go with the mic I use:

Bottom line, GET A MIC. If you consider yourself a lyricist then invest in a performance mic and a mic chord. This insures you know you have a dope mic and will sound proper, not to mention the lack of germs you are gonna transfer. Have a mic and always bring it because you never know.

Lastly, we are days away from 2015 and options are numerous for how you bring your set to a show. DO NOT assume the promoter or venue has a cd player or blah blah, always put your set on your smart phone or iPod and bring an eight inch cable with a converter plug.

Weirdlys World: Too Much Like Us?

Our next page sees the CYCLOPS SCIENTISTS trying to figure out what to do with the AWAKENER. Really the AWAKENER has done nothing harmful or wrong in itself. Its made buildings and other objects alive which is a big challenge for the cities inhabitants in having to deal with their objects as living beings. A challenge I believe as a society we are going to face maybe not in my life time but soon after I should think.

Seriously Siri

I always sort of wince when I hear people being mean to Siri on their phones. I can’t help to think in this electronic primordial soup that we have made is an intelligence brewing, an artificial intelligence. One that may remember who was naughty and not nice. I know thats paranoid but Siri is talking back even fielding insults. Maybe it’s good practice to be nice to Siri for our future relations with the things that we make that will become much like us.

The CYCLOPS SCIENTISTS made the decision to abandon and contain these new beings. They were afraid of the effects these new creatures would have on their society. To much change to soon for them. In the end we will find out if they made the right decisions. I wonder if it will echo our own choices.
