School Supply Drive: Ansely Emeanuwa

Ansley and Supplies

In the Name of Giving

Ansley and companyMy name is Ansely Emeanuwa I am 17 years old and I am going to school at CCPS Cottonwood Classical. In Summer 2010, I started a charitable organization called school supply drive. The 2014 drive is coming to a “close” with an event at the Rail Yards Market this Sunday, October 26 from 9am to 3pm. You can still donate after the event by clicking here or dropping off supplies at the school: 7801 Jefferson St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.

School Supply Drive

The reason I did this was because when I was in Middle school some of my friends were coming to me asking for school supplies. I didn’t ask them why, but having to see some classmates asking for school supplies often that touched my heart. I started thinking how to help those children by providing them with school supplies that was when I started thinking about starting this organization. In my first year, I raised lots of books by going door to door around my neighborhood collecting books. What helped me the Suppliesmost was that I made a list and distributed them to my neighbors as I went door to door. As months went by my neighbors supported my organization tremendously by supplying lots of school supplies towards my organization. I could tell you that it was not easy to go door to door asking people to help, still I kept my hope high and continued doing it because it is part of me. In addition to my neighborhood support, stores like Walmart, Office Depot, Target, and my church Calvary Chapel also helped. My goal was to raise at least more than $500 worth of school supplies for that year. But guess what, I exceeded my goal and was successfully raised $2,000 worth of school supplies. I raised lots of school supplies that APS was so pleased to have my organization go through the news media on August 16, 2010. I was interviewed by many TV channels such as channel 4, 7, and channel 13.

Giving in 2011

In 2011, I did the same thing because I wanted to continue supporting kids by providing them with school supplies as much as I could. I asked my church Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque to help again with my school supply drive and they did and I got a lot of school supplies. In that year I raised $5,000 worth of school supplies.

Giving in 2012

In 2012, I did it the same thing again, but this time more businesses got involved. In that year, I donated my own money to the drive. The money that was donated I went to Walmart with my mom and bought a lot of school supplies. At the end, I gave the school supplies to APS according to APs that helped 349 students who received the school supplies. I am happy because I was able to meet my goal.

Giving in 2013

In 2013, it was the same but I went more to the neighborhood, and my family friends also contributed to the drive as well. I can tell you that doing this changed my life because seeing the children there happy and excited to receive school supplies meant alot to me. It made me change my ways of seeing things, knowing that some people in the world are struggling to provide for their children with food, school supplies, health insurance, and a roof on their head. One person asked me “When are you going to be done with this drive?” I said well, I will continue until next year, but I will take a break for a few years because of college and when I am done, I will do it again and make the drive very big. I know my job is not done yet, I have more to contribute in the future.

If you can’t make the Rail Yards Market this Sunday, October 26 please click here to arrange donation.
