Alex Paramo was elected as first alternate to the KUNM Radio Board!

Alex is the co-founder of Community Publishing. Community Publishing is dedicated to creating virtual space for community based artists of all media (writers, painters, photographers, musicians, etc…) to collaborate on multimedia book projects with the purpose of promoting their work. Unlike traditional publishers, Community Publishing uses a “ground up” approach which emphasizes an all-encompassing collaborative method. Community Publishing‘s projects also serve the function of promoting literacy in our communities. Alex also writes a regular local music feature for New Mexico Entertainment Magazine. 

New Mexico Entertainment Magazine – Live Music Beat

Alex was hired in the Spring of 2023 to be the Live Music Beat writer. In this capacity, he will cover local musicians, regional and national touring music acts as well as anything else pertaining to live music in New Mexico.

His first article covered Ryan Montano – a New Mexico born trumpet player who has ascended into national recognition.

His second article reviewed the performance of Wild Child at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.

Biography

Alex and Marisol Paramo – KUNM Radio

Alex Paramo was born and raised in Queens, NYC. His parents are originally from Colombia, South America. At the age of 8 Alex developed an interest in the media, watching national network news and reading the NY Times. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and History with minors in Sociology, Secondary Education, and Psychology from Queens College, City University of New York. After graduating from College, Alex moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended the University of New Mexico. (UNM). At UNM he studied Counseling and History at the graduate level. Additionally Alex worked as a Speech Writer and Web Master for UNM’s Provost and President. Alex currently teaches Middle School English & History at an APS Charter School in the South Valley and lives in Albuquerque with his young daughter Marisol. Alex and Marisol spend their time crafting stories from their imagination while incorporating aspects of the world around them.

In 2013 Alex volunteered his time and energy, along with local artists, civic leaders, entrepreneurs and community organizers, towards creating the Rail Yards Market at the Albuquerque Rail Yard grounds. Alex served as the Marketing Director for the Rail Yards Market from 2014-2018. 

In 2015 Alex, founded Community Publishing. Community Publishing is committed to diversifying the media landscape. Alex Paramo is also the Author of Princess Marisol & the Moon Thieves, and the sequel, Princess Marisol & The Portal, bilingual multimedia Children’s book available in digital and print format. Both of the books were adapted for the Stage and performed around the Southwest by FUSION Theatre Company.

In 2016 Alex founded Mariposa Music, a Live Music Event Production Company dedicated to generating funds towards alleviating social ills. Mariposa Music has featured local as well as regional acts in venues around the Southwest. Among Mariposa Music’s clients include Reviva (Albuquerque), Marujah (San Diego), Tesuque Revolt (Ocean Beach) Casa de Calacas (LA) and Da Terra Meiga (Galicia, Spain). Mariposa Music has helped organize New Mexico’s biggest music event – SOMOS ABQ.

2017 Marisol Paramo (his daughter) won the Bilingual Children’s Book of the Year, New Mexico – Arizona Book Awards, for her multimedia bilingual Children’s book, Bella The Caterpillar. 

In 2021 Alex was chosen as a concept artist for the Rail Trail project. The Rail Trail will feature arts and music on a 1.5 mile long trail connecting the Albuquerque Rail Yards with Downtown Albuquerque. Additionally Alex  became the host of smARTalk. Sponsored by Spotify, smARTalk is a hybrid livestream / podcast show which discusses progressives solutions to social ills confronting our society, with artists of all mediums. The show leverages the film industry in New Mexico to include the perspective of filmmakers shooting in New Mexico.  The show will be adding co-host, Actor Ava del Cielo (Independence Day) and is set to resume and to be shot at UPublic studios in March

In 2022 Alex and Marisol are currently working on a bilingual multimedia Children’s book, Princess Marisol Presents: The Wise Woman & The Moon. They will be receiving a UEFT Grant from the City of Albuquerque to write the story and it will also be adapted for the stage and performed by FUSION Theatre Company. 

Mariposa Music and Reviva

In 2017 Alex Founded the music fundraising company Mariposa Music. Mariposa Music strives to change the world one song at a time. In the same year Alex was offered and accepted the job as Manager of the Desert Rock/Reggae band Reviva. Reviva has a long history of community work and advocacy, having traveled on a Fulbright Scholarship to work in Nicaragua to preserve Music and Cultural Heritage.

Alex is one of the Founding Organizers at the Rail Yards Market and served as it Marketing Director for 5 years. Alex has also worked at the University of New Mexico as a web designer, speech writer and social media consultant for the EVP for Administration, Provost and President.
